Edition 2025 — Biennale Design Saint-Étienne

The 13th edition of the Biennale Internationale Design Saint-Étienne was held from May 22 to July 6, 2025, on the theme 'Resources, Foretelling Tomorrow.' Under the scientific direction of Laurence Salmon and general curation by Éric Jourdan, nine designer-curators explored the notion of resources through a 2,000 m² choral exhibition at Halles Barrouin. Armenia was the guest country for this edition.

13th Edition — Resources, Foretelling Tomorrow

The 2025 edition of the Biennale Internationale Design Saint-Étienne offered an ambitious reflection on resources, whether material, human, or intellectual. The theme 'Resources, Foretelling Tomorrow' questioned how design can respond to contemporary challenges: depletion of natural resources, climate change, and the questioning of production and consumption models.

The Flagship Exhibition at Halles Barrouin

Spread over 2,000 m² at Halles Barrouin, the main exhibition functioned as a 'choral exhibition' bringing together nine designer-curators: Isabelle Daëron, Frédéric Beuvry, Sylvia Fredriksson, Marlène Huissoud, Anna Saint Pierre, Laurent Massaloux, Étienne Mineur, Philippe Rahm, and natacha.sacha. Each offered their own interpretation of resources, creating a rich and polyphonic journey. The scenography by Joachim Jirou-Najou provided a spectacular setting combining monumental architectural elements and colored grids.

The Right to Dream at the Cité du design

In the La Platine building, the exhibition 'Le Droit de rêver' (1,000 m²) showcased the work of ESADSE students, demonstrating the vitality of young design talent.

Armenia, Guest Country

The exhibition 'En relief, créer en Arménie,' curated by Jean-François Dingjian, Eloi Chafaï, and Nairi Khachadourian, offered a panorama of contemporary Armenian creation — design, architecture, fashion, and crafts — within the framework of the twinning between Saint-Étienne and Kapan.
