Grand traditional fair on Pentecost Monday, featuring crafts, hunting, and Perche terroir products
Every Pentecost Monday, Mondoubleau hosts its Pentecost Fair, an unmissable event in the Perche vendômois region of Loir-et-Cher. From 9 am to 6 pm, the Market Square and town center streets fill with exhibitors, artisans, hunting and livestock associations. The program includes a craft village, archery and rifle shooting initiations, hunting horn demonstrations, as well as saddlery, equestrianism, and local produce. This traditional fair celebrates the rural and hunting heritage of the Perche.
Included in the calendar of major fairs in Loir-et-Cher, the Mondoubleau Pentecost Fair is held every year on Pentecost Monday, in the heart of this historic small Perche town. For many years, this event has brought together merchants, artisans, hunters, and visitors in a friendly and popular atmosphere, true to the spirit of the great rural fairs of the Centre-Val de Loire region.
From 9 am, a craft village is set up on the Market Square and in the adjacent streets. Visitors can discover traditional know-how: saddlery, leatherwork, woodworking, cutlery, basketry, and clothing making. Local producers offer cured meats, cheeses, honeys, Loire wines, and other local specialties, while traveling merchants complete the offering with their varied stalls.
The Mondoubleau Pentecost Fair places a significant emphasis on the world of hunting and nature. Hunting associations and departmental federations host information and awareness stands. Visitors can try their hand at archery, rifle shooting (in a secure shooting range), and hunting horn playing. Specialized exhibitors offer equestrian equipment, saddlery, hunting clothing, and accessories. These activities highlight the deep hunting roots of the Perche and neighboring Sologne regions.
Throughout the day, demonstrations and animations punctuate the fair: horn calls, presentations of hunting dog breeds, equestrian shows, and workshops for children. On-site catering allows for lunch in a rustic atmosphere, with local products cooked at the fairgrounds. The event attracts a diverse audience, from families to nature enthusiasts, and contributes to the economic and tourist vibrancy of Mondoubleau and its surroundings.
The fairs of Mondoubleau are a centuries-old tradition. The town of Perche vendômois is famous for its Saint-Denis Fair in October, whose origins date back to the Middle Ages. The Pentecost Fair is its spring counterpart, bringing welcome animation on the eve of summer and demonstrating the vitality of the fair and rural heritage of Loir-et-Cher.
The Pentecost Fair is held every year on Pentecost Monday, from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
