78th Cannes International Film Festival — 2025
The 78th edition of the Cannes Film Festival took place from May 13 to 24, 2025 at the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès, on the Croisette. Twelve days of screenings, press conferences, meetings, and parties marked this new edition of the world's largest film festival.
The Palme d'Or was awarded to "A Simple Accident" (Un simple accident) by Iranian filmmaker Jafar Panahi, a remarkable film shot clandestinely in Tehran under exceptional production conditions. This award recognized the courage and talent of a filmmaker who was imprisoned and then released, and who continues to create despite the ban on filming imposed by the Iranian regime.
22 films were in the official competition for the Palme d'Or, from all over the world. The Un Certain Regard, Directors' Fortnight, and Critics' Week sections completed an exceptionally rich program.
