36th Festival de Laon – "Horizons of Romanticism"
The 36th edition of the Festival de Laon invited the public on a musical journey through the "Horizons of Romanticism", from September 10 to October 13, 2024. The program featured the repertoire of the 19th and 20th centuries, from Schubert to Rachmaninoff, including Brahms, Liszt, Mahler, Bruckner, and Sibelius.
The festival dedicated a special tribute to Gabriel Fauré, on the occasion of the centenary of his death. Violinist Renaud Capuçon presented the complete chamber music of Fauré in three concerts at the Notre-Dame de Laon Cathedral. The edition concluded with a grand finale featuring Fauré's Requiem, performed by the orchestra and choir of the Opéra royal de Versailles.
The Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France once again opened the festival, continuing a faithful partnership of over twenty-five years. A world premiere, Le Messager de la nuit by Claudio Alsuyet, was also given its first performance.
