The 17th edition of the Festival Lumière took place from October 10 to 18, 2025, in Lyon. American filmmaker Michael Mann received the Prix Lumière, in the presence of many international cinema personalities including Sean Penn, Natalie Portman, John Woo, and Shu Qi.

17th Edition — Prix Lumière to Michael Mann

The Festival Lumière 2025 celebrated the cinema of Michael Mann, recipient of the 2025 Prix Lumière. The director of Heat, Collateral, and The Last of the Mohicans received his award during a ceremony at the Halle Tony Garnier, in the presence of Sean Penn, Natalie Portman, John Woo, Shu Qi, and István Szabó.

Among the highlights, the festival featured a recreation of La Sortie de l'usine Lumière, the foundational film shot in 1895 at the Hangar du Premier-Film, as well as live-scored film events and numerous retrospectives.
