Edition 2025 — Sculpture Festival
The 2025 edition of the Montauban International Sculpture Festival, themed “Complementarity,” took place from June 2 to 15. French and international sculptors took over the Espace Bourdelle, Maison du Crieur, and Espace des Augustins for two weeks of live creations, exhibitions, and participatory workshops open to all.
International Sculpture Festival 2025 — “Complementarity”
From June 2 to 15, 2025, Montauban celebrated sculpture under the theme of “Complementarity,” the unifying concept of this edition, which brought together French and international sculptors in the cultural spaces and squares of the city.
The theme “Complementarity”
The concept of complementarity inspired a wide variety of plastic interpretations: complementarity of materials — stone, metal, wood, clay —, complementarity of forms — solid and void, smooth and rough, organic and geometric —, complementarity of cultures and artistic approaches. The works presented testified to the richness of possible dialogues between seemingly opposing artistic universes.
Live Demonstrations
The live carving demonstrations captivated large audiences, drawn by the spectacle of sculptors at work. The gradual transformation of a block of stone or a tree trunk into an expressive form — before the eyes and sometimes the questions of visitors — was one of the most powerful experiences of this festival.
Exhibitions in Cultural Spaces
The Espace Bourdelle, the Maison du Crieur, and the Espace des Augustins hosted solo and group exhibitions that showcased the diversity of contemporary sculptural practices, from the most classical figurative sculpture to the most conceptual installations.
Workshops and Mediation
Modeling, carving, and assembly workshops allowed participants of all generations to be introduced to techniques and to become aware of the challenges and pleasures of three-dimensional creation.
