20th Edition: Twenty Years of Jazz in Sens

The 20th edition of the Jazz à Sens festival took place in late January 2025 at the Théâtre municipal de Sens, marking a symbolic anniversary for this unmissable winter event in the Yonne region. Twenty years after its creation, the festival brought together three exceptional evenings in the intimate setting of the 350-seat Italian-style theater.

True to its ambition of offering the best of contemporary jazz to a discerning audience from Sens, this anniversary edition highlighted three complementary currents of current jazz. Rémi Toulon opened the festivities with his melodic and sensitive jazz, before Bojan Z — a Franco-Serbian pianist with inimitable lyricism, a leading figure in European jazz — offered the Théâtre de Sens one of those concert events he is known for. The closing evening was entrusted to the American pianist Christian Sands, an heir to bebop and a representative of a new generation of American virtuosos who perpetuate the great traditions of transatlantic jazz.

Twenty Years, and Still the Same Spirit

To celebrate its twentieth anniversary, the festival wanted to reaffirm its editorial line: to open the doors of living, inventive jazz, rooted in history and looking towards the future, to the widest possible audience. The Jazz Pass, offered at €48, allowed many loyal attendees to experience all three evenings, confirming the special relationship built over the years between the festival and its audience.
