Edition 2025 — La Janada
La Janada 2025 took place on July 3rd on Place Sainte-Cécile in Albi. Organized by the Occitan Cultural Center of Albi, the evening featured musical processions by Les Bufarèls, a traditional dance with music from the Central Pyrenees, a torchlight procession at 10:30 PM, and a large bonfire at the foot of the cathedral. The fire jugglers from the Saint-Juéry circus school added their magic to this popular and free festival.
Janada 2025 — July 3rd, Place Sainte-Cécile
For its latest edition, La Janada once again brought together the Occitan community and the residents of Albi around the ritual Saint John's Eve fire. On July 3, 2025, Place Sainte-Cécile was set ablaze with joy and Occitan culture.
The evening began with the musical procession of Les Bufarèls through the streets of the historic center, calling the people of Albi to join the celebration. The choir Cantanha and students from the Tarn Conservatory of Music and Dance offered their voices to the gathered audience. The traditional dance (bal trad), led by Arredalh — musicians from the Central Pyrenees — allowed young and old to join in the traditional Occitan dances.
At 10:30 PM, the torchlight procession departed from Le Vigan, accompanied by Les Bufarèls, to reach Place Sainte-Cécile where the great bonfire was lit between 10:45 PM and 11:00 PM. The fiery performances by the Saint-Juéry circus school electrified the crowd, before an electro-trad set by IBAC extended the festivities beyond midnight.
