Edition 2025 — Diagonales de Moissac
The 2025 Les Diagonales de Moissac offered three sessions at the Abbatiale Saint-Pierre de Moissac: medieval chant workshops in spring (May), summer, and autumn (October), led by Marcel Pérès. Each session concluded with a public concert, open to residents and visitors, allowing participants to showcase their work in the exceptional acoustic setting of the UNESCO-listed abbey.
Les Diagonales de Moissac 2025
The year 2025 confirmed the renown of Les Diagonales de Moissac as an essential event for ancient music enthusiasts and professionals. The three sessions — spring, summer, and autumn — each explored different facets of the vast medieval musical heritage, guided by the vision and scholarship of Marcel Pérès.
Spring Session
The spring session immersed participants in the chant traditions of late Antiquity, exploring the melismatic forms and archaic modes that constitute the oldest layers of Western liturgical chant. Medieval musical notation, its ambiguities and secrets, received particular attention.
Summer Session
Summer was dedicated to a broader program, integrating repertoires of Carolingian plainchant and early forms of polyphony. The closing concerts brought together a large audience in the nave of the Abbatiale Saint-Pierre, creating moments of rare musical intensity.
Autumn Session
The autumn session concluded 2025 with a demanding polyphonic repertoire. Participants, guided by Marcel Pérès, worked on scores transmitted through manuscripts from the 10th and 11th centuries, rediscovering the musical gestures of an era when polyphony was taking its first forms.
