70th Edition - An Exceptional Anniversary
Les Nuits de la Citadelle celebrated its 70th anniversary with an exceptionally rich program from July 18 to August 13, 2025. Seven prestigious evenings brought together the greatest names in French and international artistic performance in the festival's iconic venues.
Dance, Music, and Theatre at the Highest Level
The anniversary edition opened on July 18 with the Junior Ballet of the Paris Opera, performing choreographies by George Balanchine, Maurice Béjart, Annabelle López Ochoa, and José Martinez at the Théâtre de la Citadelle. Virtuoso violinist Nemanja Radulović and his ensemble Double Sens enchanted the Cloître Saint-Dominique on July 24 with a program of Bach and Vivaldi.
On July 29, Natalie Dessay, a major figure in French opera singing, presented a family-friendly show centered around Broadway. Theatre was brilliantly represented on July 31 with Tom Schulman's Dead Poets Society, starring Stéphane Freiss at the Théâtre de la Citadelle.
The Marseille Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Daniel Kawka, offered a grand symphonic evening on August 3. The Paul Lay Trio brought a refined jazz touch to the Cloître Saint-Dominique on August 8. The closing performance on August 13 was entrusted to Mourad Merzouki and the Käfig company with Beauséjour, a flamboyant hip-hop dance piece.
