42nd edition — Plural Feminine Musics
The 2024 edition of the Les Riches Heures Musicales de la Rotonde festival explored the contributions of women to the history of music from the Middle Ages to the 18th century. The five concerts offered journeyed through French, Italian, and English repertoires, highlighting composers too often forgotten and the women who inspired musical creation.
The ensemble Apotropaïk opened the festival with a program dedicated to troubadours and trobairitz, followed by La Rêveuse, who revealed the work of Ann Ford, an English composer of the Enlightenment. The Kapsber'Girls offered an enchanting concert dedicated to 17th-century Italian female composers, including Isabella Leonarda, Barbara Strozzi, and Francesca Caccini. Mezzo-soprano Lucile Richardot, accompanied by Jean-Luc Ho on harpsichord, explored the figures of Baroque sorceresses, while baritone Marc Mauillon closed the festival with 17th-century airs based on poems by the Countess of La Suze.
A musicological conference by La Rêveuse on August 5th and an exhibition by the association "Empreintes 04" enriched the program. The 95% occupancy rate confirmed the public's enthusiasm for this original theme.
