35th Edition — November 2025 — Guest of Honor: Marie-Hélène Lafon

For its 35th edition, Lettres d'Automne paid tribute to a leading writer of contemporary French literature: Marie-Hélène Lafon. A novelist, short story writer, and essayist born in Cantal, Marie-Hélène Lafon is the author of a body of work deeply rooted in French rural memory, in family stories passed down through generations, in the language of the countryside and ordinary people.

A Work at the Heart of the Festival

Her work — including L'Annonce, Joseph, Les Sources (Prix Renaudot 2020) — formed the common thread of this 35th edition. The encounters with the author, readings of her texts, and round tables on her favorite themes — rural life, memory, filiation, language — generated remarkable enthusiasm among the Montauban public and the many visitors who came specifically for the festival.

Over 150 Events in Two Weeks

True to its mission, the festival unfolded its program in about twenty venues in Montauban: La Petite Comédie, media libraries, bookstores, theaters, schools, literary cafes. Public readings, encounters with invited authors, writing workshops for adults and children, debates on the state of contemporary literature, film screenings adapted from literary texts — the diversity of formats allowed it to reach audiences of all ages and sensibilities.

The International Dimension

In line with its international scope, the 2025 edition also hosted foreign authors who shared their perspectives on contemporary literature, illustrating the richness of dialogue between national literatures and exchanges between cultures.

A recap film of the edition's highlights, featuring Marie-Hélène Lafon and the most memorable moments of the festival, has been produced and is available on the Confluences website.
