Edition 2024 — Lyrique en Tronçais
7th Edition: Opéra-Comique in the Spotlight
The 7th edition of the Lyrique en Tronçais Festival took place from August 23rd to 25th, 2024, at the Saint-Étienne church in Ainay-le-Château. The chosen theme, Opéra-Comique, allowed for an exploration of one of the richest and most diverse genres in the French lyrical repertoire.
The festival presented four concerts structured around different facets of the genre: "Childhood in Opéra-Comique," linked to an exhibition celebrating the bicentenary of the birth of local painter Marcellin Desboutin, featuring excerpts from operas by Debussy and Ernest Guiraud; La Fontaine's fables set to music by Offenbach, André Caplet, and Benjamin Godard; "Drama in Opéra-Comique," blending major hits of the genre with discoveries; and "Opéra-Comique in Celebration," with unpublished arias from the manuscripts of composer Ferdinand Hérold.
