Nanterre Christmas Markets: Crafts and Festivities for the Whole City
Each year in December, the city of Nanterre (92000), prefecture of Hauts-de-Seine, embraces the Christmas spirit by organizing several Christmas markets across the municipal territory. These markets, supported by the municipality and its associative and cultural partners, allow all city residents to enjoy the magic of Christmas close to home, in a friendly and festive atmosphere.
Nanterre is a city of 90,000 inhabitants, one of the largest in Hauts-de-Seine, with a strong industrial and cultural history. It is home to the Paris Nanterre university campus, Paris X University, as well as numerous cultural institutions including the Théâtre des Amandiers. This cultural dimension is reflected in the organization of Christmas markets that promote local creation and proximity commerce.
The Creators' Christmas Market
At the beginning of December, Nanterre hosts a creators' Christmas market that highlights local and regional know-how. This market, organized at the Nanterre Tourist Office (4 rue du Marché, 92000 Nanterre), brings together more than twenty artisans and artists offering their unique creations.
You can find exclusive pieces in various fields: silver, brass, or resin jewelry, artisanal ceramics, illustrations and graphic works, fashion accessories (scarves, bags, hats), handmade decorative objects, painted or embroidered textiles. Admission is free, and the creators are present to discuss their methods and artistic universe with visitors.
This creators' market is an opportunity to offer authentic and original Christmas gifts while supporting local artists and artisans.
The Grand Municipal Christmas Market
In mid-December, a grand municipal market takes place in the city center of Nanterre, bringing together artisans, merchants, and producers in festive chalets. This larger market hosts exhibitors from the region offering a wide range of products: artisanal gift ideas, gourmet stands (Christmas treats, mulled wine, roasted chestnuts, regional specialties), local products, and activities for children.
The Arrival of Santa Claus and Activities
The municipality of Nanterre organizes the arrival of Santa Claus in several neighborhoods of the city throughout December each year. These visits, often accompanied by gift distributions and activities for children, are an integral part of Nanterre's festive Christmas policy.
Street performances, Christmas music concerts, and creative workshops for children (making decorations, writing letters to Santa Claus) complete the program of winter festivities. The city's media libraries and community centers also participate in this collective animation of the Christmas season.
Nanterre, A City in Motion
Nanterre benefits from exceptional public transport links thanks to the RER A (Nanterre-Préfecture or Nanterre-Université stations) and the RER L (Nanterre-Ville station). It is also served by the Tramway T2 and numerous bus lines of the RATP and Optile network. This accessibility makes the Nanterre Christmas market a meeting point open to the entire Parisian agglomeration.
