Edition 2025 — FCEN
The 34th edition of the Nantes Spanish Film Festival was held from March 21 to 29, 2025, an edition of 'resistance' driven by strong themes: exile and migration issues, the struggles of invisible working classes, sexist and sexual violence, and the question of end-of-life. Nearly 60 films were presented with 4 competitions, previews, and 40 guests including filmmaker Juan Antonio Bayona.
34th Edition — An Edition of 'Resistance'
The 2025 edition of the Nantes Spanish Film Festival offered a committed and demanding selection, described as an edition of 'resistance'. Through nearly 60 films, mostly new in France, the festival addressed themes strongly resonating with current events: exile and migration issues, the struggles of invisible working classes, sexist and sexual violence, and the question of end-of-life.
Juan Antonio Bayona, Guest of Honor
Filmmaker Juan Antonio Bayona, director of 'The Orphanage', 'A Monster Calls', and 'Society of the Snow', was one of the major guests of this 34th edition.
Four Competitions
The selection was structured around four official competitions: Fiction, Documentary, First Film, and Short Film. Previews, a series, and an exhibition complemented the program.
Q&As and Events
Composer Olivier Arson, who scored the film 'The Beasts' (in competition), offered a Q&A on music in cinema at Espace Cosmopolis. The Basque Window, a section dedicated to Basque cinema, enriched the program.
