Inaugural Edition 2024 – Refaire le Monde
The first edition of the Refaire le Monde festival was launched on March 20, 2024, International Day of La Francophonie, and unfolded until October 6, 2024. The festival was created on the occasion of France hosting the XIXth Francophonie Summit, which had not been held in France for 33 years.
The program was structured around three themes – repairing the world, reinventing the world, re-enchanting the world – with performances, concerts, exhibitions, debates, and workshops throughout France and beyond.
The festival's highlight took place on October 5th and 6th at the Cité internationale de la langue française in Villers-Cotterêts, featuring parades, concerts, readings, and workshops. Among the invited artists were: Yaya Coulibaly (Malian puppeteer), Adama Diop (Franco-Senegalese actor), the duo Ladaniva, Zaho de Sagazan, and Baloji. A world premiere for cello inspired by the work of Saint-Exupéry was presented in the Laon Cathedral on October 5th. Screenings of Francophone films and contemporary Guadeloupean dance performances (Les Traversées Guadeloupe) completed the program in Villers-Cotterêts and Château-Thierry.
