37th Rencontres du Jeune Théâtre Européen — Summer 2025
The 37th edition of the Rencontres du Jeune Théâtre Européen took place from June 27 to July 6, 2025, in Grenoble, organized by Créarc. This edition explored the theme 'Youth, Digital Technology, and the Relationship with Reality', questioning the connections between young generations, digital technologies, and their perception of reality.
A European-Scale Festival
The 37th Encounters brought together 160 young actors from 20 theatre companies representing 9 countries: Germany, Belgium, France, Italy, Ireland, Lithuania, Czech Republic, Romania, and the United Kingdom. This geographical and cultural diversity allowed for very rich exchanges, both artistically and humanly.
A Varied Program
The festival offered a dense and eclectic program:
- Indoor performances: 11 theatrical performances presented at Théâtre Prémol and TMG (Théâtre 145), in the native languages of the invited companies
- Street and outdoor performances: 5 free performances in the squares of Grenoble's city center, accessible to all passers-by
- International workshops: 10 workshops led by European educators, covering acting, street theatre, commedia dell'arte, dance, fire arts, video, circus arts, clowning, costumes, and makeup
- Daily debate-cafés: open to the public, facilitating exchanges between artists and spectators on the edition's themes
The Closing Parade-Show
On Saturday, July 5, 2025, the traditional closing parade-show traversed the streets of Grenoble. All participants from the international workshops presented a multilingual restitution of their work on the theme 'Youth, Digital Technology, and the Relationship with Reality', in a theatrical and festive procession that attracted a large audience.
A Theme at the Heart of Contemporary Concerns
The theme of this 37th edition allowed for an exploration of the questions facing European youth in the face of the omnipresence of digital technology: hyperconnectivity, social networks, artificial intelligence, the relationship with the body and human relationships, the boundary between the real and the virtual. The performances and workshops provided a space for collective reflection and artistic creation around these major issues.
