The 8th edition of the Rues Barrées festival took place from August 22 to 24, 2025, in Auxerre, with an enthusiastic Spanish focus. About twenty companies, including several from Barcelona and Spain, offered around fifty free performances in the city's streets and squares. Opening on Friday evening at the Tournelle parking lot with the Spanish company Rojo Telón, and closing on Sunday evening with Avis de tempête. Approximately 25,000 spectators filled the streets of Auxerre during this festive weekend.
8th Edition — A Spanish Flavor!
For its eighth edition, the Rues Barrées festival took on a distinct Spanish accent, hosting several companies from Barcelona and Spain alongside French troupes. From August 22 to 24, 2025, about twenty companies offered around fifty completely free performances in the streets, squares, and parking lots of Auxerre's city center.
On Friday, August 22, at 7:30 PM, the Spanish company Rojo Telón opened the festivities at the Tournelle parking lot with a striking aerial circus performance, 'Transir', acclaimed by several thousand spectators. Representatives of the Barcelona scene brought their energy and inventiveness, blending emotional intensity and technical prowess in disciplines as varied as circus, juggling, dance, and street theater.
French and European Companies United
Over the three days, spectators enjoyed an eclectic program mixing disciplines and aesthetics: Les Plastiqueurs and their 'Cycl'à Rêve', Cie Dédale de clown with 'Muraï', the burlesque theater of Tounar Cie and Marylou Vergne in 'Brigitte B, femme fatale', the dizzying comedy of Théâtre Gili Gili with 'Funny Hats', and the absurd humor of Fraser Hooper in 'Funny Business'.
The festival once again proved its commitment to humor and poetry as vehicles for connection between artists and the Auxerre audience. Performances, lasting from 20 minutes to an hour, followed one another in several locations simultaneously, inviting spectators to walk across the city to catch everything.
On Sunday, August 24, at 9:30 PM, the company Avis de tempête concluded the festival in style with a grand street performance blending circus and music, met with applause from a large and loyal audience.
