8th edition: five days of guitar at the Abbey of Chanteuges
The 8th edition of the Six Cordes au Fil de l'Allier festival took place from July 15 to 19, 2025, at the Abbey of Chanteuges. For five days, the priory church, the chapel, and the abbey's esplanade vibrated with the sound of classical guitar, jazz, lute, and Brazilian music.
Opening concert at the Château de Chavaniac-Lafayette
The festival began on Tuesday, July 15, with a decentralized concert at the Château de Chavaniac-Lafayette featuring the Canopé duo (guitar and cello), offering a poetic opening in this emblematic historical site of Haute-Loire.
Official opening at the Abbey
The official opening at the abbey site took place on Wednesday, July 16, at 8:30 PM with the Cavalcade trio (two guitars and percussion), who delivered an energetic concert blending guitar sounds and percussive rhythms under the Romanesque vaults of the church.
Unprecedented jazz and young talents
Thursday, July 17, was marked by a discovery day open in particular to young people from the Langeadois leisure centers and the Langeac EHPAD, with a site visit by heritage animator Marilyne Avon followed by an interactive concert around Renaissance guitar with Gilles Defoin. A young talent concert in the chapel at 5:00 PM preceded an aperitif-concert on the esplanade at 6:30 PM, followed by the main evening concert at 8:30 PM with an unprecedented guitar-saxophone jazz duo formed by Jérôme Ciosi and Gilles Barikosky.
Masterclass and exceptional duo
Friday, July 18, featured a masterclass in ensemble music for guitars led by Brazilian composer Paulo Bellinati, with his pieces 'Um amor de valsa' and 'Baião de Gude' on the program. The masterclass performance opened the evening concert which brought together the duo Cristina Azuma and Paulo Bellinati, offering a musical journey into the heart of Brazilian music. A second young talent concert in the chapel and an aperitif-concert on the esplanade completed this rich day.
Masterful closing with Thomas Dunford
Saturday, July 19, concluded the festival in style with a third young talent concert in the chapel at 5:00 PM, a final aperitif-concert on the esplanade at 6:30 PM, and the closing concert at 8:30 PM with lutenist Thomas Dunford, an internationally acclaimed virtuoso, who delivered a masterful recital in the exceptional acoustics of the priory church.
