Edition 2025 — Vaison Danses
The 29th edition of Vaison Danses was held in July 2025 at the Roman Theatre of Vaison-la-Romaine. As every year since 1996, the festival brought together several major international choreographic companies for a high-level program, mixing classical ballet, contemporary dance, and world premieres in the exceptional setting of the Provençal Roman monument.
29th Edition — Dance as Heritage
The 29th edition of Vaison Danses took place in July 2025 at the Roman Theatre of Vaison-la-Romaine. Continuing its previous editions, the festival offered a leading international choreographic program, with several world-renowned companies performing on the stage of the Roman theatre. This penultimate edition before the 30th-anniversary jubilee was an opportunity to measure the progress made since the festival's creation in 1996.
A Program Between Heritage and Creation
The 2025 edition maintained the course of excellence and diversity that has characterized Vaison Danses for nearly thirty years. The stage of the Roman Theatre hosted performances ranging from large-scale classical ballet to the most demanding contemporary dance, offering the audience from Vaucluse and festival-goers from further afield a rich and stimulating panorama of current choreographic practices. All forms of dance were represented, from neoclassical ballet to the most experimental forms.
Evenings Under the Stars
As usual, the performances took place outdoors in the Roman theatre, at dusk. The Provençal setting—the warm stones of the Roman arena, the scent of thyme and lavender carried by the summer breeze, the starry sky as a backdrop—gave these choreographic evenings an additional poetic dimension, making each performance a unique and unforgettable moment. Opening acts for some performances were given by young emerging companies from the region, following the tradition of openness to new generations that characterizes Vaison Danses.
A Festival Rooted in its Territory
The 29th edition confirmed Vaison Danses' status as one of the most endearing summer festivals in the South-East of France. The festival contributed to the cultural and tourist animation of Vaison-la-Romaine in July, attracting thousands of visitors who were able to combine the pleasures of dance with the discovery of the town's exceptional archaeological and medieval heritage. Local businesses, restaurants, and accommodations once again benefited from the festival's radiating effect on the region's attractiveness.
