Edition 2023 — Variations
The 7th edition of the Variations festival took place from March 28 to April 9, 2023, in Nantes. Around forty artistic proposals filled the Lieu Unique, Salons Mauduit, Musée d'arts, Stereolux, and Pannonica, exploring piano and keyboards from classical to jazz, and from electronic to experimental.
Variations 2023 — 7th edition
The 7th edition of Variations unfolded from March 28 to April 9, 2023, in about ten venues in Nantes. The festival offered around forty artistic proposals centered on piano and keyboards, crossing the boundaries of classical, jazz, electronic, experimental, and world music.
Program highlights
Among the invited artists, Abdullah Ibrahim, the South African jazz legend, gave a solo recital at the Grand Atelier of the Lieu Unique on April 9. Philip Glass, performed by the Third Coast Percussion, resonated with his minimalist pieces on April 8, while the Ensemble Links presented the works of Steve Reich on April 7.
The festival also hosted Koki Nakano, Okkyung Lee, Will Guthrie & Ensemble Nist-Nah, Thomas Ankersmit, Lucrecia Dalt, Madeleine Cazenave, Jakob Ullmann, Oiseaux-Tempête & Friends, Joseph Schiano di Lombo, and NÂR, offering a rich and demanding panorama of contemporary creation around the keyboard.
Unique formats
True to its identity, the 2023 edition featured diverse listening formats: intimate concerts, immersive performances, talks, and club nights, inviting the audience to experience music in a renewed way.
