Deuil-la-Barre Celebrates Advent
Deuil-la-Barre, a charming town in the Val-d'Oise, less than fifteen kilometers north of Paris, adorns itself each December in its finest attire to host its Christmas Market. Ideally located between the regional forest of Montmorency and the shores of the lake of Enghien-les-Bains, the town offers an exceptional natural and architectural setting for this winter event. The central square, adorned with fairy lights and seasonal decorations, transforms into a welcoming Christmas village where residents and visitors gather to share the magic of the holidays.
Artisans and Creators in the Spotlight
The Deuil-la-Barre Christmas market highlights the artisans and creators of the Île-de-France region, who exhibit in carefully decorated wooden chalets. Visitors stroll along aisles scented with cinnamon to discover a rigorous selection of quality products: handmade jewelry, pottery, wood carvings, original paintings and prints, as well as natural skincare, artisanal soaps, and scented candles. Gastronomy naturally holds a privileged place with homemade terrines and rillettes, aged cheeses, fruit jams and jellies, fine chocolates, Alsatian bredeles, and other Advent treats. Chilled walkers can warm up with a glass of spiced mulled wine or a cup of hot cider.
Christmas Magic for Children
The entertainment program for the Deuil-la-Barre Christmas Market is particularly attentive to its youngest visitors. Creative workshops—cookie decorating, paper garland making, wood painting—are organized throughout the weekend to entertain and delight children. Puppet shows and Christmas tales are offered on a small stage set up in the heart of the market, transporting toddlers into a fantastic and magical world. The much-anticipated arrival of Santa Claus is the highlight of the weekend: each child can confide their wishes to him and leave with a smile and a small welcome gift.
Between Lake and Forest: A Unique Setting
The exceptional geographical location of Deuil-la-Barre, at the confluence of several remarkable natural spaces, greatly enhances the Christmas market visit. The nearby lake of Enghien-les-Bains offers splendid winter walks with its shores and cold water reflections, while the Montmorency forest invites woodland strolls among century-old oaks. The town itself has interesting architectural heritage with its 19th-century bourgeois houses and private gardens that bear witness to its past as a popular resort for Parisians. Jean-Jacques Rousseau stayed in the area, inspired by these landscapes that can still be discovered today during a winter stroll.
