About Taverny Christmas Market

Each early December, Taverny sets up its Christmas market in Place Verdun, in the center of this green town at the gates of the Montmorency forest. Twenty wooden chalets host artisans and producers for two days. An outdoor ice rink, shows, a carousel, and food trucks animate this Christmas village, popular with families from Taverny. Entry is free and the market is part of the rich festive program of the Vallée de Montmorency during Advent.

Taverny and its forest dressed for Christmas

Taverny, a residential town in the Vallée de Montmorency, benefits from an exceptional natural setting at the gates of the Montmorency forest, one of the largest and most beautiful forests in the Parisian suburbs. In December, this sylvan and romantic setting serves as a natural backdrop for the Christmas festivities that take over Place Verdun, the geographical and commercial heart of the town. In just a few years, this market has become one of the most anticipated family events in the southern Val-d'Oise.

Twenty chalets around Place Verdun

Place Verdun, renamed Place Charles de Gaulle for the occasion, is adorned with garlands and light decorations to welcome twenty carefully arranged wooden chalets. Craft artisans, local producers, and specialized merchants offer their products throughout the weekend: handmade jewelry, ceramics, turned wood objects, natural soaps and essential oils, scented candles, handmade clothing and accessories. The gourmet offerings include fine chocolates, homemade jams, soft nougats, gingerbread, and artisanal confectionery. Hot drink stands diffuse their enchanting aromas — mulled wine with spices, Norman hot cider, homemade hot chocolate — inviting visitors to linger in the festive atmosphere of the market.

The ice rink, the carousel, and the food trucks

The Taverny Christmas Market stands out for the quality and variety of its additional attractions. The outdoor ice rink, set up on the square each year for the duration of the market, welcomes skaters of all levels in a joyful musical atmosphere. Beginners and experienced skaters alike glide under the gaze of passers-by and to the sound of Advent music. A vintage carousel offers young children enchanted rides among the illuminated chalets. Carefully selected food trucks complete the catering options with artisanal burgers, crêpes, tartiflettes, and other comforting dishes suitable for the December cold.

Shows and entertainment all weekend long

The entertainment program for the Taverny market is dense and varied. Street performances — jugglers, acrobats, a Christmas theater troupe — are offered at regular intervals in the market aisles, creating moments of surprise and wonder for all ages. Choirs from local schools and associations perform traditional Advent songs, contributing to the festive and melancholic atmosphere unique to December markets. Santa Claus is present throughout the weekend to welcome children and pose for unforgettable souvenir photos.

Taverny at the gates of the Montmorency forest

The Montmorency forest, which borders Taverny to the north, offers wild and timelessly beautiful sylvan panoramas in December. Walkers and families can reach the forest on foot from the town center for a rejuvenating winter stroll before or after visiting the market. Marked hiking trails allow visitors to discover the snowy undergrowth and views over the Plaine de France. The forest, one of the most precious green lungs of the Île-de-France region, is well worth a detour along its forest paths.
