780th Anniversary of the Pyre and Summer Solstice 2024

March 16, 2024 marked the 780th anniversary of the Montségur pyre. The commemoration ceremony was held at Prats dels Cremats, at the foot of the stele, starting at 10:30 AM. Representatives of Occitan associations and cultural movements paid tribute to the 225 victims of the 1244 pyre. In the afternoon, themed conferences on Catharism were offered at the municipal hall.

On June 21, 2024, the summer solstice day, hundreds of visitors gathered at Montségur Castle to witness the solar phenomenon: the first rays of the rising sun passing through the keep's arrow slits with millimeter precision.
