Taurine festival of the Adour Afición bullfighting school in Saint-Sever
The Adour Afición Festival is a taurine event organized in Saint-Sever in homage to the bullfighting school founded by maestro Richard Milian in Cauna in the Landes region. This festival brings together former students of the school who have become matadors for an exceptional taurine show in the Henri Capdeville bullring. Founded in 2005, the Adour Afición school trains young bullfighters in the values of work, rigor, discipline, honesty, and humility, and the festival raises funds to support this unique training in the Southwest.
The Adour Afición Festival is a unique taurine event held in Saint-Sever, in the Landes region. This festival pays tribute to the Adour Afición bullfighting school, founded by maestro Richard Milian in Cauna, and helps to financially support the training of young bullfighters.
The Adour Afición bullfighting school was founded in 2005 on the personal initiative of Richard Milian, without public aid or subsidies. Located in Cauna, in the Landes region, the school emphasizes a family-like environment and a small number of students so that each student can thrive with maximum consideration, honesty, and respect. The fundamental values taught are work, perfection, rigor, discipline, honesty, and humility, even before bullfighting techniques.
Since its creation, the Adour Afición school has trained several bullfighters who have taken their alternative (the ceremony of accession to the rank of matador): Antonio Joao Ferreira (alternative in 2008 in Mont-de-Marsan), Thomas Dufau (2011), Mathieu Guillon (2012), Dorian Canton, and Yon Lamothe. Young Ekaitz Moreno Leal represents the new generation of the school.
The Adour Afición Festival is organized for the benefit of the bullfighting school, allowing for the raising of funds to ensure the sustainability of this unique training in the Southwest. Former students who have become matadors return to Saint-Sever to face novillos from renowned breeding farms, offering a high-quality taurine show to aficionados.
The festival benefits from the support of the Peña Jeune Afición of Saint-Sever and the entire taurine community of the Southwest. The day is structured around a free morning tienta (bullfighting trial), a friendly meal at the Cloître des Jacobins, and the afternoon taurine festival in the Henri Capdeville bullring.
The festival takes place in two emblematic locations in Saint-Sever:
Saint-Sever is accessible via the D933 from Mont-de-Marsan (15 min) and Dax (40 min). From Bordeaux, take the A65 towards Pau, exit at Aire-sur-l'Adour then take the D933. Free parking is available in the town center, near the bullring and the Cloître des Jacobins.
The nearest station is Mont-de-Marsan, served by TER trains from Bordeaux and Dax. Local transport connects Saint-Sever from the station.
Taurine events are supervised by an appropriate safety and rescue system. Strict adherence to safety instructions is imperative, especially during the tienta.
