The international sign language arts festival, unique in the world, in Reims
The Clin d'Oeil Festival is an international biennial festival dedicated to sign language arts, organized in Reims by the CinéSourds association since 2003. For four days, the festival brings together about forty countries for live performances, film competitions, sign language concerts, visual arts, street arts, circus, slam, and the famous Deaf Parties. Fully accessible in LSF and International Sign Language, it is a unique event in the world.
The Clin d'Oeil Festival is the largest international festival dedicated to sign language arts. Created in 2003 by the CinéSourds association, it is held every two years in Reims and brings together artists, professionals, and spectators from about forty countries. Supported by the Ministry of Culture and the City of Reims, this festival is fully accessible in LSF (French Sign Language) and IS (International Sign), fostering the mix of spoken and signed languages from around the world.
At the heart of the festival, the theaters of Comédie de Reims and Le Manège host a full program of live performances interpreted by sign language theater companies from around the world. Plays, performances, dance, and visual creations explore the full artistic richness of Deaf culture and offer a unique stage experience, where gesture and body become the main vectors of emotion.
The Clin d'Oeil Village, set up in the parking lot of the Stade Auguste Delaune over 7,000 m², is the beating heart of the festival. This open-air village brings together artistic and professional exhibitors, street artists, musicians, circus performers, and offers a continuous program throughout the day. Every evening, the famous Deaf Parties liven up the village with musicians, dancers, and a unique festive atmosphere.
The festival organizes an international film competition — short films and documentaries — highlighting Deaf cinema and audiovisual creations in sign language. Exhibitions of visual and plastic arts, street art, and a SLAM Battle complete the artistic program. Professional seminars and conferences are also offered for players in the cultural and film sectors.
The Clin d'Oeil Festival is designed as a space for inclusion and meeting between Deaf and hearing cultures. Activities for children and young people, workshops, and street entertainment create a joyful atmosphere open to all. The event helps to change perceptions of deafness and promote sign language as a full language, carrying a rich and vibrant culture.
