Eclectic and family festival between reggae, dub and rock in Saint-Victor-sur-Rhins
The Défou'Loire Festival is an eclectic and family music festival organized every year in Saint-Victor-sur-Rhins, in the Loire region, by the association Brise-Rhins. Located at Le Treuil, in the heart of the Roannais countryside, this late-summer event offers a varied program mixing reggae dub, rock, punk, French chanson, Latin, Balkan, and electro music. Led by DJ Kunta, a founding member of the sound system Zion High Foundation active since 1996, the festival brings together artists from the international reggae and dub scene alongside rock and punk bands and local collectives each year. Saturday is dedicated to families with a children's ball and youth entertainment. The site offers free camping, on-site catering, a bar, a chill-out area, and video mapping projections by renowned VJs. Eco-responsible, the festival uses dry toilets and recyclable materials.
Created in 2022 by the Brise-Rhins association, the Défou'Loire Festival has quickly established itself as a must-attend festive event in the Loire music scene. Located at Le Treuil in Saint-Victor-sur-Rhins, halfway between Roanne and Lyon, the festival offers a rural and friendly setting for a late-summer weekend focused on musical eclecticism and togetherness.
The Défou'Loire Festival stands out for the richness and diversity of its programming. Each edition offers a musical journey ranging from French chanson to reggae dub, including rock, punk, Latin music, Balkan sounds, and electro drum and bass. The festival is deeply rooted in reggae and dub culture thanks to its organizer DJ Kunta, a founding member of Zion High Foundation, a Lyon-based sound system active since 1996 and recognized from 2005 for its major reggae events throughout the Lyon region.
Over the years, the festival has hosted renowned artists such as Charlie P, Big Red, O.B.F., Les Sales Majestés, Tomawok, Stand High Patrol, The Dynamics, Flying Orkestar, and the Red Rockers Sound System, alongside many local and emerging artists from the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes scene.
True to its intergenerational spirit, the Défou'Loire Festival places great importance on young audiences. Every Saturday afternoon, a children's ball hosted by the company Mega Môme kicks off the festivities at 4 PM, allowing the youngest to discover music and dance in a welcoming atmosphere. From 6 PM, the guinguette area invites all generations to gather for a musical aperitif with Latin sounds.
Le Treuil offers an ideal natural setting for the festival. Located about an hour from Lyon and Saint-Étienne, and a 20-minute walk from the Saint-Victor-Thizy train station (TER Lyon-Roanne line), the site is easily accessible while guaranteeing a complete change of scenery. Free camping allows festival-goers to fully experience the event on-site. Video mapping projections by VJs Samvida Nanda and Viktor Furiani adorn the site with lights and images throughout the evening.
The Défou'Loire Festival is committed to an eco-responsible approach with the use of dry toilets, recyclable materials, and particular attention to waste management. The Brise-Rhins association upholds the values of conviviality, sharing, and respect for the environment at the heart of each edition.
