Photography takes over the streets and gardens of Bellême
The Festival Photo de Bellême is a summer event dedicated to photography that takes place every year in the medieval town of Bellême, in the Orne region. Organized by the Espace Photo du Perche, the festival transforms the streets, parks, ramparts, and shops of the town into open-air galleries. For nearly two months, professional and amateur photographers exhibit their works in a remarkable heritage setting, offering visitors a unique artistic stroll between cobbled alleys and Percheron panoramas.
Since its creation, the Festival Photo de Bellême has made this small town of character an unmissable meeting point for photography enthusiasts. Organized by the Espace Photo du Perche, located at 9 rue Ville Close, the festival offers a rich and varied program each summer that takes over the entire town.
The festival's principle is based on a photographic stroll through Bellême. The works are exhibited in various locations: the medieval ramparts, the town's porch, parks and gardens, certain shops in the town center, and remarkable heritage sites. This open-air scenography allows for a rediscovery of Bellême's architectural heritage through the lens of contemporary photographic creation.
Each edition hosts about ten photographers with diverse universes: reportage, portrait, landscape, fine art photography, black and white, nature photography... The exhibitions are accompanied by opening receptions, artist encounters, and screenings that enrich the discovery of the presented works.
The beating heart of the festival, the Espace Photo du Perche is a permanent exhibition space located on rue Ville Close in Bellême. Throughout the year, it hosts temporary exhibitions and photography-related events. During the festival, it becomes the ideal starting point for discovering the entire photographic trail.
Bellême, classified among the "Petites Cités de Caractère" (Small Towns of Character) of Normandy, offers a remarkable setting for photography. Its medieval streets, half-timbered houses, ramparts, and its state forest form a backdrop conducive to contemplation and artistic creation. The festival contributes to the cultural influence of this Percheron town and attracts visitors from all over France each summer.
The outdoor exhibitions are accessible freely and for free throughout the festival period, allowing everyone to discover the works at their own pace, during a walk through Bellême.
