Grand Bruit Festival: When Music Takes Over the Landscape

The Grand Bruit Festival is the summer event of ARFI (Association à la Recherche d'un Folklore Imaginaire), an artists' collective founded in 1977, recognized for its protean creations in the field of jazz and improvised music. Since 2022, ARFI has been setting up camp in Saint-Amant-Roche-Savine, in Livradois-Forez, to offer a festival where music dialogues with the landscape.

A Singular Approach to Music

The Grand Bruit Festival is distinguished by its disciplinary openness and its desire to circulate sources of emotion and wonder. The program mixes:

• Concerts: jazz, improvised music, world music, and sound creations with renowned artists like Louis Sclavis
• Sound walks: musical walks through the paths and forests of Livradois-Forez, punctuated by artistic interventions
• Shows: stage creations mixing music, theater, and performance, for adults and families
• Workshops: music and improvisation courses open to all levels

A Festival Rooted in the Territory

Saint-Amant-Roche-Savine, a small village in Livradois-Forez located 15 minutes from Ambert, offers an ideal setting for this atypical festival. Concerts and shows take place in everyday locations—community halls, squares, forest paths—to create an immersive and contemplative musical experience. The festival also invested the neighboring village of Champétières during its first editions.

ARFI: A Committed Artists' Collective

Founded in 1977 in Lyon, ARFI is an artists' collective whose creations explore jazz and improvised music in all its forms. Recognized by French cultural institutions, the collective leads the Grand Bruit Festival with the conviction that music can transform our relationship with the landscape and everyday life. The festival embodies this philosophy by offering a musical experience that "puts ears back in the middle of the village."
