International workshop for dance, singing, and acting with open-air concerts
The Festival DARC is an international workshop for dance, singing, and acting that takes place every year in August in Châteauroux. Created in 1975, it welcomes over 650 participants of all ages from around the world for two intensive weeks of training in 23 disciplines, led by 35 renowned teachers. Every evening, Place Voltaire becomes the musical heart of the festival with free and paid open-air concerts featuring top artists.
Since 1975, the Festival DARC (Dance, Art, Encounters, Creation) has been a major cultural event in the Centre-Val de Loire region. Combining intensive artistic training and high-level musical programming, it offers a unique experience for two weeks in the heart of summer, in the city center of Châteauroux.
The International Workshop of Châteauroux is the pillar of the Festival DARC. Every summer, over 650 participants of all ages and levels, from around the world, come together for two weeks of training in 23 different disciplines: classical dance, contemporary dance, jazz, hip-hop, flamenco, world dances, singing, acting, tap dance, and many more. Led by 35 internationally renowned teachers and musical accompanists, participants benefit from four levels of classes: introductory, beginner, intermediate, and professional.
Every evening from 9 PM, Place Voltaire transforms into an open-air concert stage. The program mixes free evenings and paid concerts by top artists. The 2025 edition, which celebrated the festival's 50th anniversary, featured artists such as Vitaa, Eddy de Pretto, and Sheila. The free concerts also offer great musical discoveries in a festive and popular atmosphere.
The highlight of the festival, the Final Performance brings all participants together on stage for a collective show that concludes these two weeks of work and sharing. This performance, open to the public, is a moment of intense emotion that testifies to the progress made by each participant.
Beyond the workshop and concerts, the DARC association develops activities throughout the year with DARC au Pays (events in surrounding towns) and DARC dans les quartiers (artistic workshops in priority neighborhoods of Châteauroux). The DARC dance school also offers year-round classes.
