The urban cultures festival of Limoges
Created in 2009 by the association Multifa7 and the Municipal Cultural Centers of Limoges, the Hip Hopérationnel Festival — now Limoges Block Party — is the major biennial event for urban cultures in Haute-Vienne. For ten days in April, the city's cultural centers vibrate to the rhythm of hip-hop dance, international battles, graffiti, concerts, exhibitions, and introductory workshops, bringing together local artists and international figures from the urban scene.
Born in 2009 from the collaboration between the association Multifa7 and the Municipal Cultural Centers (CCM) of the City of Limoges, the Hip Hopérationnel Festival has established itself as the unmissable event for urban cultures in Nouvelle-Aquitaine. Since its creation, this biennial festival celebrates all facets of hip-hop: dance, music, graffiti, beatbox, slam, and visual arts, with both an artistic and educational approach.
The Multifa7 association, a hip-hop and breakdance company based in Limoges since 2000, is the creative engine of the festival. Structured as a non-profit organization (law 1901) since 2004, it develops hip-hop culture through three main axes: workshops and training in dance and urban disciplines, choreographic creation in collaboration with renowned choreographers, and event organization such as the festival and CUB (Contest Underground Battles).
Each edition of the festival offers a dense program over about ten days. Highlights include hip-hop dance performances by renowned companies like Pockemon Crew, international battles pitting the best French teams against formations from around the world, graffiti jams bringing together about ten selected artists, as well as film screenings, exhibitions, and conferences on urban culture.
The festival takes over the Jean-Gagnant, Jean-Moulin, and John-Lennon Cultural Centers, as well as public spaces, galleries, and libraries in the city. This presence in different neighborhoods brings hip-hop culture closer to all audiences, from informed enthusiasts to curious newcomers.
True to its educational mission, the festival offers introductory workshops in graffiti, hip-hop dance, skateboarding, and beatbox, as well as masterclasses led by professional artists. Open stages allow amateurs to perform alongside professionals, fostering encounters and emulation across generations.
From its 6th edition in 2019, the festival evolved under the name Limoges Block Party, marking a new stage in its development while preserving its original spirit: promoting urban cultures in their diversity and creativity. The event continues to attract an ever-larger audience with each edition, confirming hip-hop's strong presence in Limoges' cultural landscape.
The Hip Hopérationnel Festival / Limoges Block Party is preparing its new 2026 edition. The program and dates will be announced in early 2026 on the Limoges Cultural Centers website.
The next edition of the festival is expected in Spring 2026. The program will be unveiled in the coming months, with new shows, battles, and workshops centered around urban cultures.
