Multidisciplinary festival on gender issues in Belfort
Born in 2010 in Belfort, the Libres Regards festival is the only event of its kind in France: a multidisciplinary program — concert, show, dance, cinema, photography, conference, debate — built around gender issues. Every year in May, it unfolds in the Territoire de Belfort and in several partner cities, to address these themes through the prism of artists.
Founded in 2010 in Belfort, the Libres Regards festival is unique in France for its format and theme: a multidisciplinary cultural program entirely built around gender issues, approached through an artistic lens. In fifteen years of existence, the festival has established itself as a space for dialogue, awareness, and creation.
Libres Regards refuses to be limited to a single art form. Its program combines concerts, live performances, contemporary dance, film screenings, photography exhibitions, conferences, and debates. Each edition brings together artists — visual artists, musicians, choreographers, directors, writers — whose works question gender representations, stereotypes, identities, and social relationships.
Historically centered on Belfort, the festival has gradually expanded to several partner territories: the Pays de Montbéliard, Besançon in the Doubs department, Altkirch in Haut-Rhin, and other towns in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. This regional dimension strengthens the festival's impact and promotes audience circulation between cities.
Libres Regards is designed for all audiences, from high school students to families, as well as professionals in the social and cultural sectors. Adapted youth programs, school performances, and awareness workshops complement the main program. Financial accessibility is a priority: many events are free or at reduced prices.
Beyond entertainment, Libres Regards aims to be a tool for social transformation. By addressing issues of equality, diversity, and inclusion through art, it contributes to changing mindsets and opening new spaces for dialogue in the city. The organizing association collaborates closely with local cultural structures, educational institutions, and local authorities.
The 17th edition of the Libres Regards festival will be held from July 2 to 5, 2026, in Belfort. The multidisciplinary program on gender issues will be announced in the weeks preceding the festival.
