Edition 2025 — Fête de la Musique

The 43rd edition of the Fête de la Musique took over Saint-Étienne from June 20th to 22nd, 2025. Over 50 free concerts spread across nine stages animated the city center, from Parc Joseph Sanguedolce to Place Jean Jaurès, Dorian, Hôtel-de-Ville, and Chavanelle. The kickoff was on Friday, June 20th at 6 PM with Brass N' Gandaïa for the 12th edition of Les Sons de la Mine at Puits Couriot, followed on Saturday by a day of concerts mixing rock, jazz, electro, rap, French chanson, and world music, with over 50,000 people gathered in the streets of Saint-Étienne.

43rd Edition — June 20-22, 2025

The 43rd edition of the Fête de la Musique unfolded in Saint-Étienne from Friday, June 20th to Sunday, June 22nd, 2025, offering three days of free concerts throughout the city. With nine stages, about fifty concerts, and thirty artists, this edition confirmed the eclectic and popular nature of the event.

Friday, June 20th — Les Sons de la Mine #12 at Puits Couriot

The kickoff was at 6 PM with Brass N' Gandaïa, a brass and percussion ensemble, which paraded from Place de l'Hôtel-de-Ville to Parc Joseph Sanguedolce. The 12th edition of Les Sons de la Mine then took over with twelve artists on two stages — Chevalement and Guinguette — mixing techno, dub, hip-hop, and world music until 2:30 AM. The Guinguette stage 'La Relève!' showcased five young Saint-Étienne rap and electro projects.

Saturday, June 21st — The City Center Celebrates

Saturday, the main day of the Fête de la Musique, saw the city center transform into a huge open-air festival starting at 3 PM:

  • Processions: Gentlemen Square (electro funk mobile) from 3 PM, followed by Onça Preta (batucada) at 4:30 PM
  • Place Jean Jaurès — Emerging Stage: Black Plant (rock), Salut l'Orage (rock), Sabaly (afrobeat reggae), They Call Me Rico (raw blues) from 6:45 PM to 10:15 PM
  • Place de l'Hôtel-de-Ville — Chanson and World Music Stage: Blu Wulu (world brass band), Tachka (chanson), Yvan Marc – L'Ancien Soleil feat. Lauris Martin (chanson), Les Mécanos (polyphonies & percussion)
  • Place Dorian — Jazz Stage: Jazz classes from Conservatoire Massenet, Trio Sanfonando, Baile Bom from 7 PM, in partnership with Gaga Jazz and Le Solar
  • Place Chavanelle — Amateur Stage: Emerging talents in contemporary music from 6 PM, including Marla Fredonne, KER, and August is Gone
  • Temple, rue Élisée Reclus: Vocal ensembles Mélocotone and Les Anges Passent
  • Conservatoire Massenet: Participatory workshops from 2 PM to 4:30 PM

Confirmed artists on the main stages included Green Tingz (reggae), RCZ (Saint-Étienne rap), Sunt (techno), Tracy De Sà (electro rap), and Bloody Beetroots (electro punk). In total, 14 Saint-Étienne bands were featured in this 43rd edition.

Sunday, June 22nd — Musical Naps

On Sunday, the Cité du Design hosted musical naps and shows in the Jardin Michel-Olagnier, extending the festivities in a softer, more contemplative atmosphere.
