About Fête de la Musique
Fête de la Musique — edition 2026
44th edition — Saturday, June 20th and Sunday, June 21st, 2026
The Fête de la Musique returns to Saint-Étienne for its 44th edition on Saturday, June 20th and Sunday, June 21st, 2026. The city is once again spreading its program over two days: a major opening night at Puits Couriot on Saturday, followed by the national celebration on June 21st in the streets and squares of the city center. In total, nine stages, around fifty concerts, and approximately 250 artists—covering electro, rap, French chanson, jazz, rock, world music, gospel, and children's shows—for an entirely free event.
Saturday, June 20th: Sons de la Mine #13
Festivities begin on Saturday, June 20th at Puits Couriot, in the Joseph-Sanguedolce park, with the 13th edition of Sons de la Mine, a flagship evening for urban and electronic music co-organized as part of the Before de Couriot. Two stages will alternate without a break: the Chevalement stage, at the foot of the mine's headframe, and the stage set up in the Mining Museum courtyard. Thirteen artists will perform from 6:00 PM to 2:30 AM, from the hip-hop soul of Tonton Boombap to the reggae dub of Big Red & Irie Ites, as well as the hard techno of Bckyrd and the bass music of Circulaire b2b Saintétine b2b Ange.
Sunday, June 21st: The city center in music
On Sunday, June 21st, the national Fête de la Musique day, the entire Saint-Étienne city center transforms into an open-air concert venue from 4:30 PM to midnight. The Bric à Boum Orchestra and their recycled percussion instruments will lead the way with a festive parade, before each square takes on its own musical identity.

Fête de la Musique in Saint-Étienne: A City in Harmony
Since 1983, Saint-Étienne has celebrated the Fête de la Musique with great enthusiasm around the summer solstice. A national event launched by Jack Lang in 1982, the Fête de la Musique immediately became an essential popular gathering in Saint-Étienne. Every year, the City organizes an ambitious and eclectic program, transforming the city center into a vast, free festival open to everyone.
Nine stages across the city
The Saint-Étienne Fête de la Musique spreads across nine stages located in the city center and beyond:
- Place Jean-Jaurès: An emerging talent stage hosting young local bands, ranging from rock and electro-pop to world music.
- Place de l'Hôtel-de-Ville: A stage for chanson and world music, featuring brass bands, polyphonic groups, and French-speaking artists.
- Place Dorian: A jazz stage in partnership with the Gaga Jazz association and Le Solar, showcasing jazz workshops from the Conservatoire Jules-Massenet.
- Place Chavanelle: A stage dedicated to amateur musicians and emerging talents in contemporary music.
- Parc Joseph-Sanguedolce (Puits Couriot): Home to Sons de la Mine, a flagship urban and electronic music event, featuring a 'Chevalement' stage, a stage in the Mining Museum courtyard, and a 'Guinguette' stage.
- Le Temple, rue Élisée-Reclus: Vocal ensembles, choirs, gospel, and polyphonic singing.
- Square Cocteau and Cité du Design: Shows for young audiences, musical naps, and open-air performances.
- Conservatoire Jules-Massenet: Participatory workshops open to the public.
Sons de la Mine: The Couriot Warm-up
The festivities kick off the day before the national June 21st celebration with Sons de la Mine at Puits Couriot. Co-organized with several local cultural institutions as part of the 'Before de Couriot', this event offers an evening of urban, electronic, dub, and hip-hop music across two stages set up in Parc Joseph-Sanguedolce and the Mining Museum courtyard. A dozen artists perform back-to-back from 6:00 PM until 2:30 AM in a non-stop format.
An eclectic and local program
The Saint-Étienne Fête de la Musique makes it a point of honor to promote local talent: each edition features around fifteen local bands alongside regional and national artists. The musical genres are as varied as the city's own soundscape: rock, rap, jazz, electro, French chanson, world music, reggae, blues, batucada, polyphonies, and classical music. Musical parades through the city center, led by brass bands and percussion collectives, round out the program.
A popular and unifying event
With over 50,000 people expected each year, the Fête de la Musique is one of Saint-Étienne's most unifying events. Admission is entirely free at all stages, and the STAS transport network is reinforced and extended past midnight to help festival-goers get home. The event is a core part of the City's cultural policy, which allocates a budget of approximately 150,000 euros to this popular celebration.
