Lively night markets in the heart of the Haut-Lignon
The Nuits-Saint-Jeures are the unmissable Friday evening summer event in the Haut-Lignon, in Haute-Loire. Every week from late June to late August, the Place de l'Église in Saint-Jeures hosts around thirty local producers and artisans for a festive and friendly night market. From 5 PM to 10 PM, visitors stroll among the local produce stalls, enjoy meals prepared by the producers on-site, and take advantage of free entertainment renewed each Friday: eclectic concerts ranging from gypsy jazz to rock, blues, Irish folk, and French chanson, as well as parades, demonstrations, and donkey rides for children. Organized by the association 2i2l, this human-scale event brings together locals and vacationers in a warm atmosphere at an altitude of 1,050 meters.
Since 2018, the Nuits-Saint-Jeures have illuminated Saint-Jeures village every Friday evening in summer, perched at an altitude of 1,050 meters in the Haut-Lignon, Haute-Loire. Organized by the 2i2l association, this event has become the unmissable summer gathering on the plateau, bringing together locals, summer visitors, and lovers of local produce around a simple and generous concept: a market of local producers enlivened by free concerts and shows.
Every Friday evening, from late June to late August, around thirty local producers and artisans take over the Place de l'Église and adjacent streets of Saint-Jeures. You'll find Auvergne's regional specialties: charcuterie, cheeses, honey, jams, organic bread, mountain vegetables, wines, and artisanal beers, as well as local handmade creations. Producers offer meals to eat on-site, allowing visitors to dine outdoors and savor the flavors of the Haut-Lignon in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.
What sets Nuits-Saint-Jeures apart from a simple night market is the cultural program renewed each week. At 8 PM, free entertainment sets the tone for the evening. Concerts are at the heart of the program with a wide musical diversity: gypsy jazz, Irish folk, rock'n'roll, blues, French chanson, roots reggae, polyphony, festive music, and many other styles. Beyond music, Fridays can also feature parades of brass bands, blacksmithing or dance demonstrations, themed tastings (foie gras and wines), exhibitions, or the famous giant tart animation.
Nuits-Saint-Jeures is designed to welcome all generations. Free donkey rides delight the youngest, while adults enjoy the refreshment stand and gourmet stalls. Admission is completely free, and the atmosphere remains that of a human-scale village festival, far from the hustle and bustle of large festivals. It is this authenticity and conviviality that make this summer event charming, nestled in a mountain village surrounded by preserved landscapes, near the GR hiking trails and the Mézenc peaks.
With ten scheduled dates throughout the summer, Nuits-Saint-Jeures offers multiple opportunities to discover or rediscover this lively market. Each evening has its own identity thanks to the day's entertainment, encouraging regulars to return week after week to find their favorite producers and discover the band or show that will spice up the evening. The markets are held from 5 PM to 10 PM, allowing visitors to fully enjoy the golden evening light on the heights of the Velay.

The 2026 edition's musical program promises great evenings with, notably: Sabaly on July 17, Les Paddy's on August 7, Deep Down (blues) on August 14, Old School Project (rock/hard rock) on August 21, and Istrati for the final evening on August 28. Free donkey rides will be offered to children.

By Car: Saint-Jeures is located in the Haut-Lignon, about 20 km northeast of Le Puy-en-Velay and 15 km from Tence. From Le Puy-en-Velay, take the D15 then the D500 towards Tence and follow signs for Saint-Jeures (approx. 30 minutes). From Saint-Étienne, take the D1082 then the D23 via Dunières and Tence (approx. 1h15). Parking spaces are available near the Place de l'Église.
By Train: The nearest stations are Yssingeaux (approx. 20 km) and Le Puy-en-Velay (approx. 25 km). There is no direct public transport to Saint-Jeures on Friday evenings; a personal vehicle is recommended.
The markets are held on the Place de l'Église and in the adjacent streets of Saint-Jeures village center (43200). The village is located at an altitude of 1,050 meters.

Free admission. Entertainment and concerts are entirely free. Only meals and products purchased from producer stalls are subject to a charge.
Cash and checks accepted by producers. Remember to bring cash, as not all stalls accept credit cards.
The producers present offer meals to eat on-site: charcuterie platters, cheeses, grilled meats, regional dishes. A refreshment stand is also available. You can sit at the tables provided in the square to enjoy your meal while soaking up the musical atmosphere.
Free donkey rides are offered for children at each market. The family-friendly atmosphere and the safe village setting make it an ideal event to share with the family.
