Lively night markets in the heart of the Haut-Lignon
Since 2018, the Nuits-Saint-Jeures have illuminated Saint-Jeures village every Friday evening in summer, perched at an altitude of 1,050 meters in the Haut-Lignon, Haute-Loire. Organized by the 2i2l association, this event has become the unmissable summer gathering on the plateau, bringing together locals, summer visitors, and lovers of local produce around a simple and generous concept: a market of local producers enlivened by free concerts and shows.
Every Friday evening, from late June to late August, around thirty local producers and artisans take over the Place de l'Église and adjacent streets of Saint-Jeures. You'll find Auvergne's regional specialties: charcuterie, cheeses, honey, jams, organic bread, mountain vegetables, wines, and artisanal beers, as well as local handmade creations. Producers offer meals to eat on-site, allowing visitors to dine outdoors and savor the flavors of the Haut-Lignon in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.
What sets Nuits-Saint-Jeures apart from a simple night market is the cultural program renewed each week. At 8 PM, free entertainment sets the tone for the evening. Concerts are at the heart of the program with a wide musical diversity: gypsy jazz, Irish folk, rock'n'roll, blues, French chanson, roots reggae, polyphony, festive music, and many other styles. Beyond music, Fridays can also feature parades of brass bands, blacksmithing or dance demonstrations, themed tastings (foie gras and wines), exhibitions, or the famous giant tart animation.
Nuits-Saint-Jeures is designed to welcome all generations. Free donkey rides delight the youngest, while adults enjoy the refreshment stand and gourmet stalls. Admission is completely free, and the atmosphere remains that of a human-scale village festival, far from the hustle and bustle of large festivals. It is this authenticity and conviviality that make this summer event charming, nestled in a mountain village surrounded by preserved landscapes, near the GR hiking trails and the Mézenc peaks.
With ten scheduled dates throughout the summer, Nuits-Saint-Jeures offers multiple opportunities to discover or rediscover this lively market. Each evening has its own identity thanks to the day's entertainment, encouraging regulars to return week after week to find their favorite producers and discover the band or show that will spice up the evening. The markets are held from 5 PM to 10 PM, allowing visitors to fully enjoy the golden evening light on the heights of the Velay.
The new season of Nuits-Saint-Jeures takes place in summer 2026, every Friday evening from June 26 to August 28, on the Place de l'Église in Saint-Jeures (Haute-Loire).
