The festival of emerging creation in Saint-Étienne
Created in 2021 by the association Phénomène, PHNMN Fréquences is a multidisciplinary festival dedicated to emerging creation that takes place every year in September in Saint-Étienne, at the Puits Couriot site. For three days, the festival highlights new artistic, musical, and media uses in creation and expression. The eclectic programming mixes electro, rap, pop, rock, techno, groove, and bass music on the two outdoor stages in the Couriot-Joseph Sanguedolce park (from 6 PM to 1 AM), while the Electronic Nights take over Le Clapier (from 11 PM to 5 AM). Beyond music, the festival offers an artistic village with workshops, visual arts exhibitions, film screenings, dance performances, and meetings with creators. A participatory and unifying event, PHNMN Fréquences champions an original, pioneering, and off-the-beaten-path program, accessible to the greatest number thanks to the free admission to all shows.
PHNMN Fréquences is the flagship festival of the Phénomène association, which has been working since 2019 to support, produce, and disseminate emerging creation in culture and media. Born in 2021 between Saint-Étienne, Lyon, and online, the festival has become rooted in Saint-Étienne, where it returns every late September to celebrate the diversity of contemporary artistic practices.
Since 2025, PHNMN Fréquences has adopted an unprecedented day/night format that combines live concerts and electronic music for a renewed and more unifying experience. From 6 PM to 1 AM, the two outdoor stages of the Couriot-Joseph Sanguedolce park pulse to the rhythm of live concerts mixing electro, rap, pop, rock, techno, groove, and bass music. From 11 PM to 5 AM, the Electronic Nights take over Le Clapier, an associative venue located at the park's entrance, with a program dedicated to electronic music.
PHNMN Fréquences stands out for its multidisciplinary nature. The artistic village, set up on Place Jean Jaurès, brings together creators, artisans, and associations offering workshops, demonstrations, and exhibitions. Visual arts play a central role with installations and exhibitions by emerging artists. Film screenings and dance performances complete this rich program, while OFF events unfold in the city's bars and partner venues.
Driven by a team of passionate volunteers, PHNMN Fréquences aims to showcase emerging artists from various fields: music, visual arts, dance, cinema. The festival hosts dozens of musicians, visual artists, and filmmakers each year for a weekend of discoveries and artistic effervescence. Through the PHNMN Campus program, a national student music platform, young talents are selected to perform on the festival stage.
PHNMN Fréquences aims to be an urban, festive, and accessible event, focused on emerging and independent creation. The festival's shows are entirely free and accessible to everyone. A solidarity ticket system allows festival-goers to financially support the programmed artists if they wish. All sums collected through this system are paid to the artists.
The 6th edition of PHNMN Fréquences will take place in September 2026 in Saint-Étienne, at the Puits Couriot site and Le Clapier. The festival of emerging creation will once again offer three days of free outdoor concerts (electro, rap, pop, rock, techno), electronic nights, visual arts, film screenings, and an artistic village. The full program will be unveiled in the summer of 2026.
PHNMN Fréquences returns for its 6th edition in September 2026 in Saint-Étienne. Following the success of the 2025 anniversary edition, the festival of emerging creation will once again take over the Couriot-Joseph Sanguedolce park and Le Clapier for three days of artistic and musical discoveries.
With five editions and constantly growing attendance, PHNMN Fréquences will continue its mission of highlighting emerging artists in all their diversity. The day/night format inaugurated in 2025 will be continued, with live outdoor concerts at Parc Couriot and electronic nights at Le Clapier.
As every year, the 2026 program will feature a cross-section of disciplines:
The winners of the PHNMN Campus 2026 competition will be integrated into the festival's musical program. Calls for projects for music, cinema, and visual arts will open in spring 2026.
The full program and practical information will be announced in the summer of 2026 on the festival's official website.
