France's Biggest Free Music Festival
Born in Paris in 1982, the Fête de la Musique has become the major popular event of early summer. On June 21st, throughout France, amateur and professional musicians freely take over streets, squares, parks, quays, and venues: rock, jazz, chanson, electro, world music, classical, rap… all genres coexist, for all audiences.
When is the Fête de la Musique 2026?
The official national date is Sunday, June 21st, 2026. However, some municipalities shift their edition to Saturday, June 20th — or even Friday, June 19th — to take advantage of the weekend. The exact date, location, and program are specified on each city's page.
How does it work?
The Fête de la Musique is entirely free and open to all, with no reservation required for the vast majority of concerts. Each city deploys its own setup: large stages in central squares, neighborhood concerts, open stages for amateurs, brass bands, choirs, DJ sets, and dances. Bars, restaurants, and associations complete the celebration late into the night.
