Every June 21, Montpellier celebrates the Fête de la Musique, a free national event created in 1982. In 2026, the festival takes place on Sunday, June 21 and takes over the entire city, from the historic center of l'Écusson to the peripheral districts.
Organized by the Ville de Montpellier, the event brings together amateur and professional musicians of all styles: song, electro, lyrical, brass bands, choirs, rock, and world music. Concerts begin in the late afternoon and continue late into the night.
Among the emblematic venues are: the Kiosque Bosc on the Esplanade Charles-de-Gaulle, the Promenade du Peyrou, the squares of l'Écusson, the Cité des Arts, and the Maison des Chœurs. Admission is free and open, no ticket is required. The official 2026 program will be published by the Ville on montpellier.fr closer to the event.
For the 2026 edition, the City of Montpellier is setting up several main free stages in the city center, in addition to the countless spontaneous concerts in the streets, squares, and establishments of the Écusson. Here are the main stages announced by the City:
The flagship stage, at the foot of the triumphal arch and the Peyrou promenade: pop and rap in the early evening, then brass and fanfare (notably the Balkan Paradise Orchestra) around 10:15 PM, and more intense rock to close after midnight. Among the announced artists: Carbonne, Mauvaise Bouche × Dab Rozer, Loons, Avalon Bloom.
On the renovated kiosk of the Esplanade: pop, indie, and R&B, with a program mixing emerging artists (including winners of the City's Labo artistique) and Catalan rumba.
A gathering point for choirs and vocal ensembles, from traditional singing and polyphonies to pop covers.
Many other venues are participating in the celebration: the Cité des Arts (symphony and wind orchestras of the Conservatory), the Jardin des Plantes (lyrical recitals by ElectroLyz), the Maison des Chœurs and the Maisons pour tous, as well as the squares and alleys of the Écusson. The complete official program, stage by stage, is published by the City on montpellier.fr as June 21st approaches.
