About Fête de la Science de
The Science Festival in Montpellier offers several days of entirely free scientific activities each autumn: workshops, experiments, meetings with researchers, conferences, demonstrations, and shows, spread across the Science Village and numerous scientific and cultural institutions in the metropolitan area. This national event, locally coordinated by the Université de Montpellier, contributes to the cultural and tourist dynamism of Montpellier and the Hérault department, in Occitanie.

Fête de la Science 2026 in Montpellier — « Savory Flavors »
The 2026 edition of the Fête de la Science takes place from October 2 to 12, 2026, in Montpellier and the Hérault region. The national theme, « Savory Flavors », highlights gastronomy, cooking, taste, and food as fields of scientific exploration — a year marked by the centenary of the Michelin star and the bicentenary of Brillat-Savarin's Physiology of Taste.
The Montpellier Science Village, organized by the University of Montpellier at the Faculty of Education (163 rue Auguste Broussonnet), welcomes the general public on October 3 and 4, and school groups on October 5. Throughout the fortnight, many scientific and cultural institutions in the metropolitan area also offer workshops, demonstrations, and meetings with researchers. All activities are free and open to everyone.

Saturday, October 3rd and Sunday, October 4th, 2026
Science Village, open from 10 am to 6 pm both days, at the Faculty of Education of the University of Montpellier (2 place Marcel Godechot). Free admission. National theme: "Saveurs savantes" (Scientific Flavors: taste, nutrition, and science).
- Oct. 3rd & 4th, ongoing — "Why Mathematics?" exhibition: discover math using both your head and your hands.
- Oct. 3rd & 4th, ongoing — "From the Sea to the Plate… and to the Stars!" workshop: explore seafood flavors and astronaut food, including fish and algae.
- Oct. 3rd, ongoing — "Tell me what you know and what you like, and I will…" game: a discovery of various professions.
- Oct. 3rd & 4th, ongoing — "Computer Science Enthusiasts" workshop: data and artificial intelligence.
- Oct. 3rd & 4th, ongoing — Workshop hosted by the Planète Vivante festival: a fun, hands-on scientific activity for children and teenagers.
- Oct. 3rd, ongoing — Live broadcast with Radio Campus Montpellier, set up in the heart of the Science Village, featuring numerous guests.
- Oct. 3rd & 4th, ongoing — "Family Farming in the Global South" exhibition: a photographic journey through the diversity of family agriculture in intertropical zones.
- Oct. 3rd & 4th, ongoing — "Chili peppers are not just spicy" workshop: exploring the diversity, shapes, colors, and maturity of chili peppers.
Non-scheduled program: activities run continuously during opening hours (10 am–6 pm). Montpellier Science Festival
The Science Festival is a must-attend event in the cultural life of Montpellier and the Hérault department, in Occitanie. A local version of the national event supported by the Ministry of Research, it attracts a wide audience each year, from families to schoolchildren and curious people of all ages. In Montpellier, the event is coordinated by the Scientific Culture department of the Université de Montpellier for the Hérault and Lozère departments, in conjunction with Instant Science (Occitanie regional coordination).
Presentation
For several days, free scientific activities are offered: participatory workshops, experiments, demonstrations, meetings with researchers, conferences, exhibitions, and shows. The highlight is the Science Village, deployed at the Faculty of Education of the Université de Montpellier (and at Genopolys), which brings together laboratories, associations, and scientific mediators around interactive stands.

Located in the heart of Montpellier, the Science Festival takes advantage of the exceptional setting of the commune and its university and scientific heritage. The event fully participates in the tourist attractiveness of the Hérault department and promotes the cultural and scientific riches of the Occitanie region.
