Traveling cultural season in the heart of Lozère
Scènes Croisées de Lozère is a national conventioned stage of interest "art in territory" which develops each year a traveling cultural season throughout the department of Lozère. Without a fixed venue, the structure offers a multidisciplinary program — theater, music, dance, circus, street arts, puppets, and spoken word — that meets the inhabitants in the towns and villages of Lozère. With approximately 130 annual performances reaching 12,000 spectators and mobilizing 500 artists, Scènes Croisées is a major cultural player in the region, supported by the State, the Occitanie Region, and the Department of Lozère.
Scènes Croisées de Lozère was born in September 2000, an extension of an artistic and cultural adventure led since 1979 within an ADDA (Departmental Association for the Development of Arts). In 2004, the ADDA and Scènes Croisées merged to give birth to the current structure, renamed Scènes Croisées de Lozère in 2011. Today, labeled a national conventioned stage of interest "art in territory", it develops an original artistic and cultural project throughout the least populated department in France.
The peculiarity of Scènes Croisées lies in its lack of a fixed venue. The program is traveling: shows move to village halls, village squares, theaters, and natural spaces in Lozère, meeting the inhabitants where they live. The cultural season covers a wide artistic spectrum:
Each year in September, the season opening is a festive and friendly event that launches the new program. In 2025, it was held in Saint-Julien-du-Tournel, offering shows, sensory tours, outdoor culinary performances, a literary ball, and meetings with the Scènes Croisées team. This annual event sets the tone for a season rich in discoveries, emotions, and exchanges.
Beyond dissemination, Scènes Croisées actively supports contemporary creation through artistic residencies hosted throughout the department. Companies hosted in residence benefit from privileged working conditions and immersion in the Lozère territory, a source of inspiration for site-specific "arts and landscapes" creations.
With approximately 130 annual performances, 12,000 spectators, and 500 artists mobilized each season, Scènes Croisées de Lozère is a key cultural player in the department. The structure is supported by the DRAC Occitanie (Regional Directorate of Cultural Affairs), the Occitanie Regional Council, the Department of Lozère, and the European Regional Development Fund.
The new 2026-2027 season of Scènes Croisées de Lozère will offer a multidisciplinary traveling program throughout the department: theater, music, dance, circus, puppets, and spoken word. The season opening is scheduled for September 2026.
