Festival of Participatory and Citizen Sciences in Montpellier, Hérault
Festival Va Savoir ?! is the first festival of participatory and citizen sciences in Montpellier, in the Hérault department, Occitanie. Born in 2023, supported by the Instant Science association and co-organized with Les Petits Débrouillards Occitanie, it quickly established itself as an anticipated event in the cultural and scientific life of the metropolis.
Festival of participatory sciences and research in Montpellier. For several days in October, the festival offers free workshops, walks, conferences, games, and escape games, first at Halle Tropisme during the initial editions and then in the network of media libraries of Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole. The objective: to marvel, have fun, and contribute to scientific research, regardless of one's level of knowledge.
Organized in partnership with the Network of Media Libraries and Scientific Culture of Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole, the City of Montpellier, the University of Montpellier, and the Occitanie Region, Festival Va Savoir ?! fully participates in the cultural and scientific attractiveness of the Hérault department. The festival takes place in several media libraries of the metropolis (Émile Zola, García Lorca, William Shakespeare, Victor Hugo, Jean-Jacques Rousseau in Montpellier, Aimé Césaire in Castelnau-le-Lez, Albert Camus in Clapiers, Jules Verne in Saint-Jean-de-Védas) as well as in community centers.
Each edition of Festival Va Savoir ?! offers a varied program combining participatory sciences and conviviality: meetings between citizens and researchers, hands-on workshops, nature walks, conferences, scientific games, and escape games. The flagship day generally takes place on Saturday at the Émile Zola media library. The full program is announced each year on the official website of the event.
Festival Va Savoir ?! is above all a moment of sharing between residents, researchers, and curious minds. Free and open to all, young and old, it invites everyone to discover science differently and to contribute to real participatory research programs.
The 4th edition of the Festival Va Savoir ?! will be held from October 20 to 25, 2026 in Montpellier, within the network of media libraries of Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole (Émile Zola media library and other media libraries of the metropolis).
For six days, this free festival of participatory sciences and research will offer workshops, walks, conferences, games, and escape games, to marvel, have fun, and contribute to scientific research regardless of one's level of knowledge.
