About Music Festival
Music Festival — edition 2026
The Fête de la Musique takes over Strasbourg on Sunday, June 21, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM, for an evening of entirely free concerts. Six iconic squares in the Grande-Île will host the City's official program—Marché Gayot, Saint-Thomas, Gutenberg, Château, Grimmeissen, and Saint-Étienne—with a notable change this year: Place Kléber is not on the official schedule, as the municipal programming has been redistributed to more intimate stages. Six partner stages will extend the festivities into the neighborhoods, from the Parc des Contades to Meinau, featuring local associations, music schools, and emerging bands. Funk, jazz, reggae, gospel, rap, electro, and world music will keep the energy high until the end of the night.
Fête de la Musique 2026 in Strasbourg
The Fête de la Musique returns to Strasbourg on Sunday, June 21, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM, featuring dozens of free open-air concerts across the Grande-Île and surrounding neighborhoods. The City of Strasbourg coordinates the program alongside local associations, music schools, and cultural organizations.
A year without Place Kléber
A significant change for 2026: Place Kléber is not part of the official program. The municipal lineup has been redistributed to other squares in the Grande-Île for a more diverse and intimate experience, with Place du Château taking over as the main stage for the historic center.
Six squares in the Grande-Île
Place du Marché Gayot leans into funk, rock, soul, and indie pop; Place Saint-Thomas features a mix of classical, pop, funk, jazz fusion, and rap; Place Gutenberg highlights reggae, world music, pop, and jazz-folk; and Place du Château blends folk fusion, gospel, rock, and polyphonic singing. Place Grimmeissen will host an immersive live electro set, while Place Saint-Étienne features techno and rap DJ sets.
Neighborhood festivities
At the Parc des Contades, the bandstand brings together Strasbourg's network of music schools. Place Arnold (Conseil des XV) celebrates French chanson, the Manufacture des Tabacs (Krutenau) hosts indie pop and rock, Place Maurois (Hautepierre) showcases local talent, Place de Zurich (Krutenau) pulses with hip-hop and rap, and Rue Schulmeister (Meinau) invites you to explore world music.
Access and practical info
All concerts are free and open to the public with no reservations required. The Grande-Île will be closed to car traffic from 4:00 PM on Sunday until 4:00 AM on Monday, and parking is prohibited from 6:00 AM Sunday to 6:00 AM Monday; the Gutenberg, Kléber, and Broglie parking garages will be closed from 4:00 PM to 4:00 AM. Fête de la Musique in Strasbourg: A City in Concert
Since its national inception in 1982, the Fête de la Musique has become a staple of the Strasbourg summer. Every June 21st, on the summer solstice, the Alsatian capital transforms into a massive open-air concert hall, offering everyone—amateur and professional musicians alike, and spectators of all ages—an evening of free, shared musical joy.
Stages Throughout the City Center
Each year, the City of Strasbourg organizes an ambitious program with about a dozen stages spread across the squares and streets of the historic center. The Grande-Île hosts the main events: Place du Château, Place Gutenberg, Place du Marché Gayot, Place Saint-Thomas, Place Grimmeissen, and Place Saint-Étienne. The layout changes from year to year; for 2026, the City will not be programming Place Kléber, redistributing the performances to more intimate squares instead.
An Eclectic Lineup
The program embraces all musical genres in a spirit of discovery and openness: rock, jazz, electronic, techno, classical, hip-hop, world music, French chanson, reggae, gospel, funk, and soul. The City's stages feature emerging local artists, while "partner" stages are curated by local cultural actors—neighborhood associations, record labels, and music schools—further enriching the evening's musical diversity.
A Popular and Accessible Event
All concerts are free and open to the public without reservation. Stages come alive from early evening until late at night, depending on the location. The historic center is closed to car traffic, and public transport services are adjusted for the evening. Security measures and anti-harassment prevention teams are in place to ensure a smooth experience for this popular celebration, which draws tens of thousands of locals and visitors every year.
Beyond the Official Stages
The magic of the Fête de la Musique also lies in the spontaneous initiatives that pop up in every neighborhood: street musicians, concerts in courtyards, and bar and restaurant terraces ringing with live music. It is this energy, blending official programming with urban surprises, that gives this evening in Strasbourg its unique charm.
