Flowery parade and celebration of the golden fruit in Dorlisheim, near Obernai
Every last Sunday of August, the wine village of Dorlisheim, near Obernai in the Vosges foothills, transforms into a vibrant tribute to the plum, that small golden fruit symbolizing the end of summer. The Alsace Plum Festival is much more than a simple village festival (Messti): it's a major event that attracts over 15,000 visitors and grows in success year after year.
The highlight of the day is the Flowery Parade, a procession of monumental floats decorated with flowers and artistic motifs on a theme that changes each year. In 2025, the theme was "Myths and Legends"; in 2026, it will be "European Monuments." Two parades are organized:
From 10 AM, the village's main street becomes a vast artisan market where local creators and producers showcase their work and specialties. The competition for the best plum tart and dessert competition are highly anticipated moments, highlighting culinary creativity around this fruit:
The festival offers a full program for the whole family: concerts by local bands on several stages, bowling games (Strossekegele) from 10 AM, cooking workshops, carousels, and fairground games. Village associations run the food stalls, offering flammekueche, Alsatian specialties, and, of course, all sorts of plum-based treats.
Located a few kilometers from Obernai and Molsheim, Dorlisheim is a charming wine village in the Bas-Rhin region. Its vineyards, half-timbered houses, and proximity to the Alsace Wine Route make it a popular tourist destination. The Plum Festival is part of a tradition of Alsatian village festivals that perpetuate the link between the community and its land.
