About Plum Festival

The Alsace Plum Festival, held every last Sunday of August in Dorlisheim near Obernai, is a grand celebration of the golden summer fruit. A flowery parade with decorated floats, a competition for the best plum tart, an artisan market, and an illuminated night parade attract over 15,000 visitors to this wine village at the foot of the Vosges. A colorful popular festival that pays homage to Alsace's fruit traditions.

The Plum Reigns Supreme for a Day in Alsace

Every last Sunday of August, the wine village of Dorlisheim, near Obernai in the Vosges foothills, transforms into a vibrant tribute to the plum, that small golden fruit symbolizing the end of summer. The Alsace Plum Festival is much more than a simple village festival (Messti): it's a major event that attracts over 15,000 visitors and grows in success year after year.

The Flowery Parade: A Dazzling Visual Spectacle

The highlight of the day is the Flowery Parade, a procession of monumental floats decorated with flowers and artistic motifs on a theme that changes each year. In 2025, the theme was "Myths and Legends"; in 2026, it will be "European Monuments." Two parades are organized:

  • 3 PM: the grand daytime parade of decorated floats winds through the village streets to the cheers of the crowd
  • 9:30 PM: the parade of illuminated floats, accompanied by fire jugglers, offers a magical night-time spectacle

Dessert Competition and Artisan Market

From 10 AM, the village's main street becomes a vast artisan market where local creators and producers showcase their work and specialties. The competition for the best plum tart and dessert competition are highly anticipated moments, highlighting culinary creativity around this fruit:

  • Plum tarts, clafoutis, and cakes
  • Artisanal jams, compotes, and liqueurs
  • Original sweet creations: "Mirabellier" (layered cake), plum-yuzu tart

Entertainment and Camaraderie

The festival offers a full program for the whole family: concerts by local bands on several stages, bowling games (Strossekegele) from 10 AM, cooking workshops, carousels, and fairground games. Village associations run the food stalls, offering flammekueche, Alsatian specialties, and, of course, all sorts of plum-based treats.

Dorlisheim, a Wine Village near Obernai

Located a few kilometers from Obernai and Molsheim, Dorlisheim is a charming wine village in the Bas-Rhin region. Its vineyards, half-timbered houses, and proximity to the Alsace Wine Route make it a popular tourist destination. The Plum Festival is part of a tradition of Alsatian village festivals that perpetuate the link between the community and its land.
