Jazz and world music in the heart of the Northern Vosges Regional Nature Park
Since its creation in the early 2000s, the Au Grès du Jazz festival has established itself as a major event on the jazz and world music scene in the Grand Est region. Every August, the charming village of La Petite-Pierre — perched on a pink sandstone spur in the heart of the Northern Vosges Regional Nature Park, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve — transforms into an open-air music stage where music resonates in perfect harmony with the surrounding forest landscapes.
One of the festival's unique features is the multiplicity of its concert venues, scattered throughout the village and its surroundings. The main concerts are held on the Place du Château, offering a spectacular historic setting at the foot of the ramparts. Free access is provided at the Jardin des Païens, the Jardin des Poètes, the Relais des Arts, the Place de l'École, and even the EHPAD du Kirchberg, hosting free concerts that allow discovery of emerging artists in intimate and green settings.
Au Grès du Jazz champions an open vision of jazz, embracing world music, blues, soul, folk, and African music. The 2025 edition (22nd) hosted the virtuoso Avishai Cohen in trio, the singer Ayo (soul and folk), the duo Ballaké Sissoko & Piers Faccini (Malian kora and contemporary folk), as well as Sarah Lenka in artistic residency. Each edition thus blends internationally renowned artists with emerging talents, in a spirit of discovery and sharing.
Supported by the Au Grès du Jazz – La Petite Pierre association and the Northern Vosges Regional Nature Park through its Regards d'Artistes program, the festival is committed to sustainable development and environmental responsibility. The valorization of the region's natural and cultural heritage, the use of short supply chains, and an active volunteer policy demonstrate strong local roots, making the festival much more than a musical event: a true catalyst for cultural life in the Vosges du Nord.
