Stains en Fête: the popular and cultural heart of the 93
Stains, a town of 37,000 inhabitants in the Plaine de France, Seine-Saint-Denis, boasts a remarkable cultural life for a municipality of its size. The Fête de Stains — also known as Stains en Fête — is the most festive and popular moment in the Stains cultural calendar: every summer, it brings residents together in the town's public spaces for a day of sharing and celebration.
The festival is driven by the municipality and a dense, dynamic network of associations, making Stains a community where culture is experienced as a right, not a privilege. Admission is free and open to all, in line with this philosophy of cultural inclusion.
Festival Classiq: classical music at the heart of the neighborhoods
Stains is known throughout France for hosting the Festival Classiq, created and directed by conductor Zahia Ziouani. This classical music festival, which annually takes over the venues and public spaces of Stains and Seine-Saint-Denis, is a unique initiative: it aims to democratize classical music by bringing it to the heart of working-class neighborhoods.
Although Festival Classiq is distinct from the annual popular festival, it contributes to Stains' cultural influence and fosters a special relationship between residents and music and culture. The two events complement each other and together testify to Stains' cultural vitality.
Sports activities and community life
The Fête de Stains places a central role for local associations. Sports clubs offer free introductions and demonstrations in their disciplines: football, basketball, martial arts, athletics, and recreational sports are usually represented. Friendly tournaments and open competitions allow residents of all ages to participate and compete in a festive atmosphere.
Stains' cultural and social associations also have stands, offering introductions, presentations of their activities, and events specially designed for children and families. This strong presence of associations makes the Fête de Stains a true ephemeral village, a microcosm of Stains' social life.
Gastronomy and national celebration
The gastronomic stands at the Fête de Stains celebrate the town's culinary diversity, with cuisines from all over the world. The national holiday of July 14th is also celebrated with the traditional popular ball and fireworks, key moments in Stains' collective life that residents eagerly anticipate each year.
