675th Tripettes — January 18 and 19, 2025
The 675th Les Tripettes de Barjols constituted an exceptional event, celebrating six hundred and seventy-five years of uninterrupted popular tradition. Thousands of locals from Barjols, Provençals, and visitors from all over France gathered on January 18 and 19, 2025, to experience this one-of-a-kind festival.
Roasting the Ox
On the night between Saturday and Sunday, the preparation of the whole ox began in Place Capitaine Vincens. Hours of slow cooking over embers preceded the distribution of the roasted meat to residents and visitors, renewing the founding act of 1350. The smell of roasted ox, mixed with smoke and the scents of the Provençal night, created an inimitable medieval and festive atmosphere.
The Tripettes Dance
On Sunday morning, the streets of Barjols vibrated to the sound of tambourines and galoubers. Hundreds of dancers in traditional costumes formed farandoles winding through the historic center, drawing locals and tourists in their wake. The Tripettes dance, a living transmission of seven centuries of Provençal culture, culminated in a giant farandole in the main square.
Bravades and Procession
The procession of the relics of Saint Marcelin crossed the streets of Barjols under the volleys of arquebuses from the bravadeurs in period costume. Religious fervor and popular celebration mingled in a unique atmosphere, true to the original spirit of the festival.
