May'Feria: Southwest traditions in Mayenne

May'Feria is a unique festive event in Mayenne, transplanting the atmosphere of the Southwest férias into the medieval setting of Sainte-Suzanne-et-Chammes, one of the most beautiful villages in France. Supported by the Chammes festival committee and the Banda'Suzanne association, May'Feria offers two days of colorful festivities.

The Bodega Evening: Red and White Required

The highlight of May'Feria is the grand bodega evening, where the public is invited to wear red and white, as in the great férias of Bayonne or Dax:

  • Banda concerts with up to four bands bringing together nearly a hundred musicians.
  • DJ to keep the party going until the end of the night.
  • Festive and warm atmosphere, accessible to all ages.

Among the bandas that have participated: Sans Soucis de Bordeaux (multiple French and European champions), Couak'Onjoue de Neuil-les-Aubiers, the Orchestre Banda, and of course Banda'Suzanne, the local banda.

Landes Races: The Spectacle in the Arena

May'Feria is one of the few events in Western France to offer Landes races in a temporary arena. Ecarteurs (dodgers) and sauteurs (jumpers) face Landes cows in a spectacle of bravery and agility. The public is even invited to enter the arena for taurine games open to all.

The cows are specially transported from the Landes region, a significant investment that makes this event exceptional.

Artisanal Market and Entertainment

Sunday is dedicated to daytime entertainment:

  • Artisanal market with local products and specialties from the Southwest.
  • Flea market throughout the village.
  • Banda concerts with free access in the streets.
  • Additional Landes races in the middle of the day.
