AlimenTERRE Festival: understanding food issues through cinema

The AlimenTERRE Festival is a national and international event coordinated by the Comité Français pour la Solidarité Internationale (CFSI), which is locally implemented in Mayenne by the association Les 3 Mondes based in Laval. Every year, from October 15th to November 30th, this documentary film festival invites citizens to inform themselves and debate agricultural and food issues in France and around the world.

Screenings and debates throughout Mayenne

The Mayenne edition of the festival offers around twenty screenings in various towns in the department: Laval, Mayenne, Château-Gontier, and other locations. Each screening is followed by a debate with specialized speakers—farmers, researchers, association members—allowing for a deeper exploration of the themes addressed in the films.

A selection of engaged films

Each year, the CFSI selects nine documentary films that explore various subjects:

  • The real cost of our food and fair remuneration for farmers
  • Farm succession and generational renewal in agriculture
  • Seeds and food sovereignty
  • Animal-friendly farming that respects animal welfare
  • Short supply chains and peasant agriculture

Conferences and meetings

In addition to the screenings, the festival organizes thematic conferences and meetings with local stakeholders. These exchange sessions bridge the gap between the realities shown in the films and local initiatives in Mayenne promoting more sustainable and solidarity-based food systems.

A citizen and participatory festival

The AlimenTERRE Festival is an event open to all, mobilizing a wide network of partners: schools, media libraries, cinemas, associations, and local authorities. It contributes to fostering civic reflection on what is at stake on our plates and encourages responsible food choices.

National and international reach

Nationally, the AlimenTERRE Festival brings together nearly 3,900 organizers, 2,500 events, and 100,000 spectators in 16 countries. Mayenne actively participates in this collective dynamic for a more just and sustainable world.
