Christmas market and festive activities in the Drôme provençale
The Nyons Christmas Market is the festive end-of-year event in the capital of olives in the Drôme provençale. Every year in December, artisans, local producers, and creators gather on Place Olivier de Serres and at the Vignolis cooperative cellar to offer their specialties and creations. Carriage rides, nocturnal tours of old Nyons, gourmet workshops, children's shows, and concerts punctuate a rich and family-friendly program in the heart of this charming winter town.
Every year in December, the town of Nyons dresses up for the holidays to celebrate Christmas in an authentically Provençal atmosphere. The Nyons Christmas Market brings together artisans, local producers, and creators around stands filled with local Drôme delicacies, artisanal creations, and carefully crafted gift ideas.
The market is mainly held on Place Olivier de Serres, in front of the Vignolis cooperative cellar, where visitors can find the flavors of the Drôme provençale: Nyons AOP olive oils and olives, nougats, truffles, Côtes-du-Rhône wines, honeys, jams, and other local specialties. Artisans showcase their creations: jewelry, ceramics, textiles, soaps, olive wood objects, and handmade Christmas decorations.
A gourmet Christmas market sometimes complements the program in other parts of the town, offering tastings and direct sales of local products.
The festive Christmas program in Nyons is not limited to the market. Carriage rides go through the town center, offering a romantic and picturesque stroll through the decorated streets. Nocturnal tours of old Nyons allow visitors to discover the town's medieval heritage under a magical light, between the Romanesque bridge, medieval alleys, and local legends.
Gourmet workshops are offered, particularly at the Maison des Huiles d'Olive de France, where young and old can learn to make a Christmas log worthy of a pastry chef. Children's shows and concerts complete this warm and family-friendly program.
The Nyons Christmas Market embodies the Provençal art of living during the holiday season. Far from the hustle and bustle of big cities, it offers a moment of conviviality and sharing in a preserved natural and heritage setting, where Provençal Christmas traditions—the thirteen desserts, the nativity scene, the santons—mingle with gourmet pleasures and warm encounters with the artisans and producers of the Nyons region.
