The magic of Christmas in the heart of Haute-Marne
The Saint-Dizier Christmas Market is a must-attend event for the holiday season in Haute-Marne. Each year, about twenty chalets are set up on Place Aristide-Briand to offer local crafts, gourmet specialties, and gift ideas in a magical atmosphere. Street performances, poetic parades, fireworks, an enchanted carousel, and Santa's grotto punctuate nearly a month of festivities that attract thousands of visitors to the heart of the city.
Each year, Place Aristide-Briand transforms into a true Christmas village with about twenty wooden chalets. Local artisans and creators showcase their skills: handmade jewelry, artisanal Christmas decorations, scented candles, wooden toys, ceramics, and original items. For gourmet treats, visitors can enjoy mulled wine, hot chocolate, crispy waffles, golden crepes, churros, roasted chestnuts, and other seasonal delights. This festive market, organized in partnership with the Union des Commerçants Bragards, highlights the local products of Haute-Marne and the dynamism of creators from the Grand Est region.
The launch of the festivities is a highlight with a spectacular fireworks display fired from the city ramparts, followed by a magical procession through the streets of the city center to Place Aristide-Briand, where the illuminations are inaugurated in the presence of Saint Nicholas. For several weeks, the city center becomes an open-air theater: musicians, acrobats, giant puppets, and mischievous elves take over the streets and squares to offer poetic, funny, and enchanting shows. Santa Claus is present at several events for the greatest joy of the children.
Place des Petites Halles hosts an enchanted carousel surrounded by Santa's grotto and chalets dedicated to seasonal treats. Children can meet Santa Claus, confide their wishes, and leave with magical memories. The carousel runs until the beginning of January, extending the magic of the holidays beyond Christmas.
To prolong the magic in the evening, Saturdays in December host "Aristide Christmas" evenings on Place Aristide-Briand, under a sky of sparkling garlands. A wine bar, gourmet food, and DJ sets create a friendly and festive atmosphere, ideal for meeting up with friends or family. The city center's illuminations, which extend until mid-January, transform Saint-Dizier into a warm and welcoming winter destination.
The Saint-Dizier Christmas Market is part of a tradition of winter festivities supported by the City of Saint-Dizier and the Union des Commerçants Bragards. Each edition renews its entertainment program while preserving the warm and family-friendly spirit that makes this event charming. The La Constellation media library network and the Museum also offer special activities for younger children during the holiday season, while the Halles de Saint-Dizier exceptionally open their doors for end-of-year shopping.
